GridStorm and AG Grid: evaluate the workload

Corrected September 15, 2026. Earlier versions of this page included unmeasured bundle sizes, outdated framework availability, a premium-plugin roadmap and inaccurate descriptions of AG Grid. Those claims have been withdrawn. This is an evaluation procedure, not a published benchmark or a claim of feature parity.

Establish the versions first

Record the exact package versions, framework adapter, lockfile and build settings for both candidates. The inspected GridStorm source includes React, Vue, Svelte and Angular adapters and an MIT root license. Inspect the licenses of the packages you install; repository contents do not prove simultaneous npm availability. See the introduction for scope.

AG Grid supports selecting feature modules to reduce bundle size; it should not be described as necessarily shipping every feature. Use its module selector to configure a comparable build. Its current theming documentation describes a Theming API, so a blanket description as SASS-only is inaccurate. Check the current Community and Enterprise feature matrix for licensing rather than relying on a copied price table.

Build a comparable trial

Use one representative screen with the same data and cell renderers. Include empty values, duplicate display names, stable row identifiers and enough records to exercise scrolling. Record these outcomes:

Area Acceptance check
Data integrity Sorting and filtering preserve identifiers and values; clearing filters restores the expected row count.
Editing Commit, cancel, invalid input and server rejection produce the expected state.
Accessibility Keyboard users can enter, operate and leave the grid; focus stays understandable when rows recycle.
Export Headers, values, dates and selected-row semantics match the required output.
Performance Measure production bundles and interactions on the same device, browser and workload.
Maintenance Estimate adapter changes, unsupported features, testing effort and support requirements.

Do not treat the presence of a similarly named plugin as proof of identical behavior. Server-side models, exports, custom editors and state persistence deserve separate trials. If a required workflow has no verified replacement, keep the existing implementation while evaluating alternatives.

Record the decision

Save the small test application and its lockfile with a table of observed results. State the date, hardware, browser and measurement method beside every number. A successful trial supports that workload only; it does not establish universal speed, accessibility conformance or lower total cost.
